Early One Morning – Folk Songs, Rounds, Ballads, Shanties, Spirituals and Madrigals

Thirty-three folk songs, forty-three rounds, seven ballads, five shanties, nine spirituals and plantation songs, and six madrigals, making 103 songs in all, among them several two-part folk songs and eleven songs for three or four parts. A well-balanced mixture – light-hearted and pensive, serious and jolly, loving and bantering, this collection represents many streams of songs in English, from easy folk tunes and rounds to madrigals and other part-songs. A core of well-known songs is complemented by a wealth of new discoveries. The collection can be the student’s companion from Class 5 to Class 12.

It is intended that each student should have his/her own copy of this collection as a companion throughout the Christmas seasons from the fifth grade to the twelfth – and beyond.

A Change In The Year

While Rhythms, Rhymes, Games and Songs contains quite a number of the more traditional children’s songs, the importance of pentatonic songs for at least the first two years of the Lower School can hardly be overestimated. Among other things, they often have a therapeutic effect in that they can help to calm and harmonize the children. These two collections offer a considerable variety of songs.

Pentatonic Songs

for nursery, kindergarten and grades 1 and 2
